Will Pomerantz

William Pomerantz currently serves as the Senior Director of Space Prizes for the X PRIZE Foundation. He holds a BA in Earth and Planetary Sciences from Harvard University and a Masters of Science in Space Studies from the International Space University. As Senior Director of Space Prizes, Mr. Pomerantz manages the all of the X PRIZE Foundation's space activities, including the $30 million Google Lunar X PRIZE. From 2006-2009, he also managed the Northrop Grumman Lunar Lander X PRIZE Challenge, which concluded with the successful award of $2 million in NASA-provided prize purses. Additionally, he oversees the development of Foundation's forthcoming prizes in the field of space exploration. From 2005-2006, Mr. Pomerantz served as the Foundation's sole representative in Washington, DC. Mr. Pomerantz is married to Mrs. Diana Trujillo Pomerantz, a Systems Engineer at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Mr. and Mrs. Pomerantz both serve as coaches for the Zero Gravity Corporation, joining passengers in weightlessness on parabolic flights. Additionally, he serves on the Board of Trustees for the Students for the Exploration and Development of Space (SEDS). Mr. Pomerantz is a graduate of the NASA Academy at Goddard Space Flight Center, NASA's premiere leadership training program. He has formerly worked at Harvard University, Brown University, and the Futron Corporation, an aerospace consultancy based in Bethesda, Maryland. He performed his Master's thesis on satellite telecommunications services in conjunction with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific in Bangkok, Thailand. He was also a co-founder of SpaceAlumni.com, an online news and networking tool that helped connect young space professionals around the world from 2004 through 2008. He served as SpaceAlumni's Chief Editor for two years before stepping down from that position in 2007. From 2006 through early 2007, Mr. Pomerantz proudly served on a National Research Council Federal Advisory Committee producing a report on 'Meeting the Workforce Needs for the National Vision for Space Exploration'. Additionally, he has previously held leadership positions as an officer of the Space Generation Foundation, the NASA Academy Alumni Association, the ISU-USA Alumni Association, and the Space Exploration Alliance. Mr. Pomerantz has been a featured or keynote speaker at conferences and events run by numerous institutions, including the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum, the NASA Institute for Advanced Concepts, the European Space Agency, the International Space University, the California Institute of Technology, and Harvard University.
